The financial services in the office are provided by the Finance Unit which has a team of six staff members. The services rendered include making payments, processing salaries, cash management, advice on banking services, release of project funds, and accounting and reporting. The services are not only limited to UNDP projects and staff but also to other UN Agencies which are administratively supported by UNDP, as well as UN agencies which have activities in the country but have no resident offices.

Delivery of financial services in UNDP has been greatly enhanced by the introduction of a new financial management system: ATLAS (effective 1 January 2004). Thanks to this robust web-based system, all financial processes are done in real time, thus substantially reducing the time required to process transactions and produce reports. ATLAS has also facilitated arrangements with the banks for most payments to vendors and staff to be done electronically.

As a result, payees now get the payments in their bank accounts within 24 hours - compared to the four working days it took when payments were effected by cheques. This has significantly reduced the operational cost, and at the same time has improved the quality of service rendered to all UNDP Uganda’s clients.
