RFP for consultancy services for "Assessing the Implementation of the Brussels Programme of Action"

 

 

Background

The 3rd UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) held on May 2001 in Brussels, Belgium adopted a Program of Action (POA) for the LDCs for the decade 2001 – 2010.[1] The POA constituted a fundamental framework for a strong global partnership, with the goal of accelerating sustained economic growth, sustainable development and poverty eradication in the LDCs. At the 61st Session of the UN General Assembly the global implementation of the POA was comprehensively reviewed, and the Heads of State and Government and heads of Delegations recommitted themselves to addressing the special needs of the LDCs by making progress towards the goals of poverty eradication, peace and development.

[1] Currently 49 countries, including Uganda, are designated by the UN General Assembly as Least Developed Countries. LDC status is defined according to three broad criteria related to national income, status of human assets and economic vulnerability.
